Reaction to Lin Zixu's letter to Queen Victoria

How was Lin Zixu persuasive in his letter to Queen Victoria? If you where Queen Victoria, would you be convinced? How would you react to this letter?

  1. Lin Zixu was persuasive by comparing European and Chinese cultures, and by explaining China's deep respect for England and how honorable and respectful they are believed to be. He also essentially threatens the English by pointing out that China is not dependent on Europe for anything, and that trade isn't essentially for them but it is for Europe.

  2. Lin Zixu tried to get Queen Victoria to relate to the Chinese people. He talked about how she would be doing the same thing that he was if she was in the position of the Chinese. If I was the Queen I would be very suspicious and alert because Lin was being very nice in his letter.
