  2. the mongle conquests: started in China and then progressed outward. Ghengis Khan and his grandson, Kublai Khan, were the leaders of this conquest. Their intentions were to gain land and power all over China. Overall, it had good results, such as trade roots and a larger world view.
The spanish conquest: violent and cared mainly about power. They killed all of the natives.
The ming conquest: relatively peaceful and China was trying to accomplish trade and power throughout the world. They stopped the voyages when the scholar officials said to do so because they said it was a waste of their money and they had everything they needed.

  4. -Brought back Merit System
-People had to work for government jobs
    -Emphasis on being purely Chinese

  6. How do Du Liniang and Sierva Maria encounters with love compare? Are there any common ideas in the two stories? And how do the stories reflect their respective cultures?

  7. They both went against the social norm at the time. Du Lianiang went against her filial piety and other Confucian values and Sierva Maria went against the Church. I also believe that Sierva Maria took a risk and a chance for her love, whereas the girl in Peony Pavilion did not even know her lover existed. In other words, she killed herself for a guy that she didn't know existed. To answer the second part of the question, society, in this situation, did not know best because society was saying that it is against the rules to be with the one they loved, but in the end, loving them actually benefited them. The Peony Pavilion reflected neo-confucianism and Of Love and Other Demons reflected views against the Church.
